The Value of Front Yard Landscaping

The front yard landscaping affects the way both you and other people feel about your home. For you it may give a feeling of pride, or it may give you a calming affect or it may be a source of irritation because it is not the way you want it. For other people the front yard landscaping serves to color their first impression of the home and therefore, the value of the property.

If the front yard landscaping is an eye soar, the value of the property will be hurt. If, on the other hand, the front yard landscaping compliments and beautifies the home it will increase the value of the house.

What others think of your house may not matter to you that much when you are not interested in selling but it probably should because it is still affecting the value of your home. The value of your home is closely related to the value of the other properties in your neighborhood and potential home buyers can easily be put off from an entire neighborhood by one bad house, even if it is not the house they are interested in buying. By letting your front yard landscaping go you may be discouraging interest in your neighborhood and therefore, lowering the value of all of the surrounding properties, in effect lowering the value of your own property.

You should also take this into account when you are buying a home. Pay attention to the overall look of the front of the house along with the rest of the property. Even if the front yard is in bad condition, you may be able to get a bargain, fix it up and increase the value of the whole area.

If you are looking at a building lot, keep in mind how you will treat the front yard landscaping so that is compliments the home. Remember, that even if the lot is badly sloped or has other problems, there is a lot that can be done with grading and terracing to turn a challenging lot into a show piece. There is also much that can be done by adding top soil or soil amendments if you have a piece of ground that is poor for landscaping. There are also a lot more flower, plant and tree species available then their use to be, that can handle various landscape environments.

Also keep in mind how the front yard landscaping will integrate with the home itself. In other words, how will the landscape look from the inside as well as from the outside? Will you have a big picture window that deserves an enhanced view or a terrace that will combine indoor with outdoor living? Take all of these concerns into account when planning your front yard landscaping as well as the back.

Really first impression lasts. Your frontyard landscaping should say it all. We should invest hardwork and good ideas in our frontyard and then later on the backyard cause what we first see is the frontyard, right?
